Dave Casper Raiders Memothentic “GHOST” SERIES I

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

All Raider fans remember “The Ghost”, Dave Casper. He played his college ball at Notre Dame and was drafted by the Raiders in 1974. In 2002 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as the 13th Raider to be inducted.

Here is a memory from Casper from one of the most memorable games of his career, the 1977 AFC Divisional Playoffs vs the Baltimore Colts:

“A picture of me alone is rare. I was usually blocking or trying to catch passes and in a crowd. This is how I dressed for games, a helmet with no bar in front of my eyes. My nose bled often, I wore the same QB shoulder pads for 11 years and two smaller thigh pads. It was work, but fun, pain, but pleasure… when we won with Ken Stabler as QB, Madden as coach, and Fred B., Cliff, and our defense, we won often.”

Herman Edwards Eagles Memothentic “MIRACLE AT THE MEADOWLANDS” Series I

Everyone remembers this play, Eagles fans — and especially Giants fans. Quarterback Joe Pisarcik needed to take one more snap and kneel with the ball to preserve a 17-12 Giant upset. Instead he attempted to hand off to Lary Csonka and fumbled, allowing Edwards to pick up the ball and run 26 yards for the game winning touchdown.

No one remembers it better than Herm:

“Every play of every game is important. Maybe no play was bigger during the entire 1978 season than this one. When Joe Pisarcik turned for the handoff and the ball hit the turf, I immediately thought, “I’ve gotta get this thing on the first bounce.” Normally you’d just fall on the football, but I knew if I could field it cleanly I was going to score. Sure enough, I got it on the first bounce and scored. I never could have imagined I’d ever be involved in a play like the “Miracle of the Meadowlands.”

Tim Brown Raider Memothentic Coming Soon!

We just got word from Tim Brown that he will be writing a memory of his record breaking mobile game on Dec 2, 2002 where he got his 1000th career catch in a home win versus the Jets. Jerry Rice and Cris Carter are the only other receivers to break 1000 in the NFL. Tim Brown is known as “Mr. Raider” — he is not only the greatest Raider wide receiver, he is also the Raiders all-time leader in games played with 224.

Watch the blog, when we get Tim’s memory we will post it!
