“THE FIRST RING”. Look at this amazing shot of Wendell Tyler from Super Bowl XIX on January 20, 1985. Tyler blasts through as Roger Craig throws a big block and the 49ers head to a touchdown that seals the game over the Miami Dolphins. Here it is — the way Wendell remembers it!
“We were in the third quarter in Super Bowl XIX before we broke the huddle I was thinking about my first Super Bowl XIV with the LA Rams that we lost. It was third down and four yards to go for the first down. Joe had called my play, it was an inside trap. I new if we got the first down, then we would score, and I could get my winning ring. I got the ball and saw Roger throw his block — he and his man went to the ground. The hole was more to the inside; I cut back into the hole and saw the linebacker number fifty one in the hole. Randy Cross our guard was on his way to block him, I was then able to pick up the first down and able to get my first Super Bowl ring.”

You have to love this shot of Rod Martin — the look of victory after winning Super Bowl XV. Not only did the Raiders win that Super Bowl, Rod Martin recorded a Super Bowl record — 3 interceptions in one game! That record has stood for over 26 years. Read below to get a sneak peak into what Rod was thinking during the celebration.
“Looking up with arms stretched towards the top of the Super Dome, with 3 fingers in the air on both hands indicating my 3 interceptions to the area in which my family and my Silver & Black family were sitting amongst all those green & white fans saying “We are the World Champions & I have a Super Bowl Record!!!”. I was thinking about our psp theme song that year “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang, singing ‘Celebrate Good Times Come On” and we are going to party tonight!!!!!”
Rod Martin still holds the record for 3 interceptions in a Super Bowl. His 3 interceptions are not only a Super Bowl record but they also tied linebacker Chuck Howley’s record for career Super Bowl interceptions. Martin is the only one to record all 3 interceptions in one game.

“The Warm Up” by Joe Montana is the first Montana Memothentic ever created. The memory is from Super Bowl XIX and it features a rare shot of Montana before the game. This is how Joe Montana remembered it:
“I was warming up my arm & body getting ready for our first possession in SB XIX. We are given the 1st 25 plays that Bill Walsh intended to run in the game on Saturday night before the game. I was running thru the order of the plays and their formations. I was also visualizing the pass plays in my mind and what I would do in different circumstances, like a blitz, if it were to occur. I was also going thru my reads and progression of receivers, for different possible defenses that the Dolphins played. All for nothing at this point since we fumbled the kick off.”
