Bob Lilly Cowboys Memothentic “THE SACK” Super Bowl VI Series I

Posted in: Memories: Enter To Win

Affectionately known as “Mr. Cowboy”, his name was the first inscribed in the “” above .

Bob Lilly was inducted into the in 1980 and he was ranked #10 on The Sporting News’ list of the top 100 Greatest Football Players.

This is his memory of a sack that caused a 29 yard loss in the Super Bowl XI victory:

“It was near halftime and we were in a fierce game against Miami during Super Bowl VI. We felt they were going to pass the ball on this down and we called a double stunt between our defensive tackles and ends. With the tackles going first I split the gap between the offensive guard and tackle making a clean escape into the Dolphins back field. Bob Griese saw me and started to run to his right, but defensive end Larry Cole had also made a clean escape on the left side of our defensive line. Griese saw him and tried to drop deeper to gain time to throw the ball away. Larry Cole and I had him corraled and I caught him for a 29 yard sack.”
