THE MEMORY SERIES I "THE UNDERDOGS": by Roger Craig Born July 10, 1960 in Davenport, Iowa
"The 1988 regular season was a trying year for my teammates. We finished the season 10-6. I remembered the media doubted my teammates and coaches as if we were going to give up and quit. The one thing about the 49ers is we had pride and big hearts. I remember Ronnie Lott calling a team meeting for just the players and the coaches weren't allowed to be there. All the leaders spoke up and shared their thoughts on how we all needed to get better as a team. Even though we didn't play well throughout the season, we still had a chance to get into the Playoffs. All we had to do as a team was win 2 of the last 3 games of the regular season schedule and we did!
Once we got into the playoffs it was on! We dominated the first 2 playoff games by beating the Vikings and the Bears. In Super Bowl 23 we faced adversity throughout the whole game, we were behind in points and we needed to score a touchdown to win the game. Joe Montana orchestrated one of the most exciting finishes ever in Super Bowl history by throwing a touchdown pass to John Taylor!"
